A day in the life of…Featuring Jasmine Williams
From the inspiration to the successes and the struggles, every business has a different story. Every Friday, we try to share the story of a small Canadian business. Have a business of your own and your own tale to tell? Drop us an email and let us know you would like to be featured at firstname.lastname@example.org.
This week we have the pleasure of featuring Jasmine! This is what Jasmine has to say about turning her side hustle into a content and social media consultancy:
Tell us about your business
Jasmine Williams Media is a a content and social media consultancy based in Toronto, Ontario. I help small businesses and entrepreneurs amplify their brands through content and social media marketing.
What made you decide to become a business Ownr?
I’ve always wanted to be an entrepreneur. Both my parents (and even my grandparents) owned their own businesses so you could say it runs in the family. However, I decided to make the leap after about a year of working full-time and doing some social media marketing and freelance writing work on the side. Once I built up a small but solid client base, I knew it was time to turn my side hustle into a full-fledged business.
Where can people find your business?
What has been your biggest challenge in running your business thus far?
I’m relatively new to the entrepreneur life but so far, my biggest challenge has been time management. Having the flexibility to set your own hours also means you need to have the discipline to stick to them so you don’t end up working all day and all night (or not working enough). Still working on this one!
When you were making your business official. What did you tackle first?
My finances. As a business owner, you need to regularly track your invoices, receipts, cash flow, etc. Making sure I had proper accounting software in place so I could ditch my Word Doc templates and streamline my bookkeeping was huge.
Do you have any tips you would like to share with other Ownrs?
Find a mentor! Especially if you’re a ‘solopreneur’ like myself. Having someone to bounce ideas off of and go to for advice from time to time can be super motivating and also serve as a reminder that you’re not in this alone.
