Ownr\u2019s 2026 Entrepreneurial Outlook, an insightful look into the hopes and concerns of Canada\u2019s future business owners.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Key Takeaways<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Entrepreneurship is top-of-mind<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Nearly nine out of 10 (87%) respondents say they\u2019ve thought about leaving their job to start a business. More than half (53%) say they consider it regularly or daily and 34% do so occasionally, while just 13% rarely or never think about it.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Interest is strong<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Of 1,076 respondents, 46% say they\u2019re interested in starting their own business within the next year, with 17% being very interested and 29% somewhat interested.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Pre-launch jitters<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Only 11% say they feel very prepared to start a business today, while 53% feel not very or not at all prepared.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Support is key<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: The most commonly named areas where support is needed are compliance (43%), business setup (42%), financial management (41%), and funding and growth (41%).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Fears and uncertainties<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: The top barriers to starting a business include not feeling financially ready (45%) and fear of failure (41%), followed by uncertainty about where to begin (31%).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Top concerns<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Affordability (51%) and entering a competitive landscape (34%) are respondents\u2019 leading worries.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>From inspiration to action<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Everyone has their own reasons for starting a business. Maybe it\u2019s to define your own goals, to achieve financial freedom, or the satisfaction of creating something you can truly believe in.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Whatever their reasons, many Canadians will find themselves questioning their careers this year: what they do, why they do it, and where it\u2019s taking them. The survey results back this up, with almost 90% of respondents saying they\u2019re thinking about leaving their job to be their own bosses.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But when asked how ready they were to make that change, only 11% of respondents said they felt \u201cvery prepared.\u201d Meanwhile, 41% reported feeling \u201cnot very prepared,\u201d 37% said they were \u201csomewhat prepared,\u201d and 12% were \u201cnot at all prepared.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This stark contrast shows how even the most brilliant idea might not be enough without the right education, guidance, and support.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Confusion and clarity<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the crucial early days of bringing a business to life, every step can seem like an obstacle. Meanwhile, 31% of respondents said they simply didn\u2019t know how to even get started.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These results make one thing clear: it isn\u2019t a shortage of ideas keeping Canadians from launching new business ventures. It\u2019s a lack of clarity on how to begin.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAmbition isn\u2019t the problem in Canada,\u201d says Jordan Casey, CEO of Ownr. \u201cIt\u2019s the \u2018activation\u2019 that\u2019s broken.
