In this interview with Ownr, founders Terence and Magda speak about their inspiration and reflect on their growth both in their business and as entrepreneurs.<\/em><\/p>\r\n<h2><strong>What inspired you to start a bow tie business for dogs?<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n<!-- \/wp:post-content -->\r\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color: #303030;\">It began in the Fall of 2016 when my fianc\u00e9 Magda and I were backpacking Peru. While in the city of Cuzco, we noticed a street dog was idling alone in a quiet corner of the town square. We decided to sit next to him which ended up being a decision that changed our lives.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color: #303030;\">During the next 4 days, this dog followed us everywhere we went! With puppy dog eyes and a wagging tail waiting for us each morning, we made the decision to adopt him and take him home with us. We named him Cuzco, after the city where he was from. The colours on his coat were reminiscent of a tuxedo and that is when we decided to find him a bow tie so he can look suave at the dog park. To our surprise, most dog accessories were cartoonish in nature and stylish \u201cJames Bond\u201d style bow ties were very difficult to find.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color: #303030;\">That is when we decided to make our own and named it Cuzco &amp; Hagen (Hagen is our second dog).<\/p>\r\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2693 alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/i1.wp.com\/ownr.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/FF4-1.png?fit=1024%2C1017&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"A dog wearing a bow tie\" width=\"366\" height=\"362\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ownr-blog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/FF4-1.png 1110w, https:\/\/www.ownr-blog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/FF4-1.png?resize=300,298 300w, https:\/\/www.ownr-blog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/FF4-1.png?resize=768,762 768w, https:\/\/www.ownr-blog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/FF4-1.png?resize=1024,1017 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 366px) 100vw, 366px\" \/><\/p>\r\n<h2><strong>What do you love about being your own boss? What keeps you motivated?<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color: #303030;\">The best part about being your own boss is seeing your development as a person. There were countless occasions where I thought the residual learning as an <a href="\&quot;https:\/\/ownr.co\/blog\/what-is-entrepreneurship\/\&quot;">entrepreneur<\/a> was more rewarding than the monetary gains. The motivation will always be seeing the company succeed. It was a good feeling to know that people are enjoying the things we made.<\/p>\r\n<h2><strong>What do you remember about the initial days of your bow tie business?\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color: #303030;\">I remember the initial days were a lot of googling on <a href="\&quot;https:\/\/ownr.co\/blog\/start-online-business\/\&quot;">how to set up an online business<\/a> and what we need to prepare administratively. <a href="\&quot;https:\/\/ownr.co\&quot;">Ownr<\/a> really took the hassle out of the <a href="\&quot;https:\/\/ownr.co\/blog\/how-to-register-your-business\/\&quot;">business registration process<\/a> and the platform guides you on supporting tools you can use for the business which was really helpful as a new entrepreneur.<\/p>\r\n<h2><strong>What\u2019s the hardest part of running a small business?<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n<!-- wp:image {\"align\":\"left\",\"id\":2693,\"width\":366,\"height\":362} \/-->\r\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color: #303030;\">Being optimistic in times of trouble is probably the hardest part of running a business. There are always going to be challenges and obstacles and things that don\u2019t go well. I find that as long as you\u2019re enjoying the ride and putting in the work then luck will find it&#8217;s way and you will find a solution to most problems.<\/p>\r\n<h2><strong>What does a typical day look like for you as an entrepreneur? <\/strong><\/h2>\r\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color: #303030;\">A typical day would be checking my email to ensure all orders are taken care of as well as ensuring retail partners have everything they need to make it easy for them to sell Cuzco &amp; Hagen bow ties.<\/p>\r\n<h2><strong>Are there any tips you\u2019d like to share with other entrepreneurs starting their business journey?<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color: #303030;\"><a href="\&quot;https:\/\/ownr.co\&quot;">Start your business with Ownr<\/a> and just dive right in.
