Even if your name is Kim Jones and you want to call your business \u201cKim Jones Flowers\u201d, your business still needs to be registered.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Your business name also cannot be misleading. For example, you can\u2019t call yourself \u201cKim Jones Inc.\u201d because you\u2019re not a corporation. Your business name will stay registered for five years, at which point you\u2019ll need to renew your registration. There must be a name and a valid physical address to which these documents can be sent.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>A valid email address<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2014 If you provide an email address, you\u2019ll receive the Business Name Registration for a Sole Proprietorship within two business days after registering. This is your proof of business registration in Ontario under the Business Name Act.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>A description of what your business will be doing<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2014 You need to summarize the function of your business. You don\u2019t have to go into great detail. Just a one-line, general description. So if your business is a bakery, something simple like \u201cselling baked goods\u201d works well.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Names of partners<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2014 If you have partners, you must list all of their names.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Partnership agreement<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2014 This is not required to register your partnership, but it is strongly recommended. Even though you and your business partners surely have good intentions when starting out, but things happen.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Circumstances occur, and partners may choose to go in a different direction. A partnership agreement is a legal document drawn up by a lawyer that outlines how decisions are made, the duties of each partner, how profits will be split, and other aspects of how your business will function.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once your business is registered, you\u2019ll receive a nine-digit BIN number (<\/span><a href="\&quot;https:\/\/www.ownr.co\/blog\/business-number\/\&quot;"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Business Identification Number<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">). This number is what identifies it as registered in Ontario.
